The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing and executing a results-driven social media strategy that builds brand awareness, drives engagement, and supports business goals. This role owns the full social lifecycle—from strategy and content creation to publishing, community management, and reporting—across all relevant social platforms.

What does a Social Media Manager do?
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with overall marketing and business objectives
  • Define platform-specific goals, KPIs, and content approaches (e.g. Instagram, Tik Tok, Linked In, Facebook)
  • Identify target audiences, content pillars, and messaging frameworks
  • Stay up-to-date on platform trends, algorithm changes, and emerging social formats
  • Collaborate with marketing, various departments, and leadership teams to align campaigns and launches
Content Creation & Creative Direction

Concept, create, and edit social-first content, including:

  • Static posts
  • Short‑form video
  • Stories and carousels
  • Copywriting

Ensure content aligns with brand voice, tone, and visual identity.

Manage content calendars and campaign timelines.

Repurpose content across platforms while optimizing for each channel.

Posting, Scheduling & Publishing
  • Own day‑to‑day posting across all active social channels
  • Schedule content using social media management tools (e.g. Hootsuite)
  • Optimize posting cadence and timing based on performance data
  • Manage tagging, hashtags, CTAs, and links
  • Support campaign launches, promotions, and key marketing moments
Community Management & Engagement
  • Monitor comments, messages, and mentions across platforms
  • Respond to community engagement in a timely, brand‑appropriate manner
  • Escalate customer service or reputation issues as needed
  • Foster an active, engaged community through proactive interaction
Analytics, Reporting & Optimization
  • Track and analyze social performance using platform analytics and reporting tools
  • Provide monthly performance reports with insights and recommendations
  • Use data to test, iterate, and optimize content and strategy over time
  • Support leadership with insights on ROI and social’s impact on broader marketing goals
In your first 6 months, you will:

In their first six months, the Social Media Manager will establish a strong strategic foundation for all of NOLS socials, elevate the quality and consistency of our social presence, and demonstrate measurable impact on social KPIs. By the end of six months, this person should be operating as the clear owner of our social channels—both creatively and analytically.

Projects in the first six months:
  • Establish communication plans with various stakeholders across departments
  • Social media audit and strategy plan
  • Social performance reporting framework
What makes a great Social Media Manager at NOLS?

  • 1‑2+ years of experience managing brand or business social media accounts
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms and best practices
  • Proven experience creating engaging social content (copy + visuals/video)
  • Experience with social media scheduling and analytics tools
  • Basic video editing or design experience (e.g. Adobe suite)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with influencers or creators
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment
