Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care in a high-acuity emergency care setting. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to provide safe and effective care for patients across the lifespan. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and contributes to quality outcomes through clinical excellence, compassionate service, and adherence to regulatory standards.
EssentialFunctions
- Performs triage and prioritizes patient care based on acuity
- Conducts age-appropriate assessments and reassessments of all patients
- Administers medications, performs procedures, and manages critical drips
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures in the emergency department
- Monitors hemodynamic status and interprets cardiac rhythms
- Documents care, treatment, assessments, and education accurately and timely
- Applies infection control and sterile technique practices consistently
- Educates patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions
- Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team for optimal care delivery
- Responds calmly and professionally in high-stress, life-threatening situations
- Knowledge of emergency nursing protocols, trauma care, and critical interventions
- Skilled in interpreting ECGs, managing IVs, and operating emergency equipment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and multitask effectively
- Proficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation tools
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Demonstrates professionalism, clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning
- Associate degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing Diploma program accepted.
- Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within time frame stated in facility policy
NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within time frame stated in facility policy - Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) preferred
- Emergency nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Demonstrated ability to function under pressure and respond effectively to critical situations
