Position: Physician - OAT and Substance Use Care (100-2079) (Permanent Family Practice)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician to join our team at the Western Communities Substance Use Program. As a Physician, you will play a vital role in providing outpatient Addiction Medicine Services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders in the Western Communities area.

Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

  • Maintain opioid agonist therapy (OAT) for stable clients.
  • Conduct new patient consultations and initiate OAT for clients with opioid use disorder.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients, with a focus on managing withdrawal symptoms.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with complex overlapping pain and addiction disorders.
  • Initiate OAT when required for opioid use disorders.
  • Initiate anti-craving medication for clients with alcohol use disorder.
  • Perform relevant diagnostic testing for the treatment of substance use disorders.
  • Document patient care during patient visits.
  • Facilitate robust discharge planning to connect patients with their Most Responsible Provider (MRP).

Indirect Patient Care:

  • Document patient care when the patient is not present.
  • Review diagnostic tests.
  • Develop treatment plans.
  • Participate in patient-specific conferences and team meetings when appropriate
  • Correspond and communicate with other patient care providers.

Clinical Administrative Services:

  • Engage in clinically related administrative activities, including medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews.
  • Provide consultation with other programs or agencies specific to the services.
  • Contribute to program planning and development activities when appropriate.
  • Participate in evaluating the efficiency, quality, and delivery of services.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid medical license in the province of British Columbia.
  • Board certification in Addiction Medicine (preferred).
  • Experience in providing addiction medicine services and treating substance use disorders.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for substance use disorders.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
