Position: 26-U035 - Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk

Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk to join our team of professionals in the Finance Division, Revenue and Tax Collections Department. Reporting to the Municipal Collector, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of accounting tasks including accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, account reconciliations and journal entries. The Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk prepares and maintains files, records and reports and this position is well suited to applicants who are detail-oriented, demonstrate critical thinking skills and have experience in accounts payable and receivable financial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions and review transactions for accuracy
  • Process a variety of payments and adjustments including property taxes, utilities and dog licenses
  • Review submitted forms for accuracy and compliance with applicable policies and regulations
  • Post receipts/disbursements to accounts and ledgers and prepare account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of files, records, reports and documents related to municipal collection
  • Answer enquiries, resolve issues and provide information and assistance
  • Perform related work as required
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of bookkeeping and accounting courses plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in double entry bookkeeping and accounts payable/receivable
  • Sound knowledge of the applicable regulations, policies, rules and systems governing municipal collections
  • Sound knowledge of computer-based information systems and applications
  • Ability to process accounts payable/receivable transactions, prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts
  • Ability to prepare a variety of files, records and reports and perform calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain effective communication with internal/external contacts and the public and provide information and assistance as required
  • Skill in operation of office equipment and software used in municipal collections
  • Knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act and related legislation is considered an asset
