Position: 26-F005 - Fire Training Officer
We are currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Fire Training Officer (from approximately July 11, 2026 to
July 10, 2028).
Reporting to the Assistant Fire Chief on training and professional development under the Operations Department, in this position you will be accountable for the direction, supervision, and administration of staff and ensure training complies with Department safety regulations. The Fire Training Officer identifies training needs and requirements, develops, and delivers training procedures, programs and course materials and oversees the operational activities of all training-related programs including recruit training, operations training, special operations training, firefighter health, and safety and first responder certifications.
This position exercises independence of judgement and ensures the provision of consistent and timely training in accordance with established standards.
Responsibilities:
Deliver training programs, courses, presentations, lectures and demonstrations to career and paid-call firefighters and department personnel in accordance with established standards and requirementsTrain, assess and evaluate performance of paid-call and career firefighters and prepare/monitor training schedules for all suppression firefightersAttend training sessions as necessary to develop and maintain skills required to accomplish training objectives and ensure compliance with Township of Langley Fire Department rules and regulationsEnsure completion and submission of all reports related to daily activitiesAssist with the coordination of the respiratory protection program and conduct Fit Testing of respiratorsComplete staff performance evaluations as requiredMay respond to emergency incidents to observe fire and rescue operations and may be tasked by the incident commander to the incident safety officer role, and/or the tender shuttle delivery.Perform related work, as assignedKnowledge, Abilities and
Skills:
Considerable knowledge of the techniques, methods, training aids, and procedures used in adult education and staff trainingConsiderable knowledge of the geography of the municipalityKnowledge of the principles and practices required to effectively train personnelAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with paid-call and career firefighter personnelAbility to develop and implement suppression training programs, courses, presentations and demonstrationsAbility to deliver a variety of training programs to all levels of staff and provide instruction and demonstrationsAbility to monitor and evaluate departmental training programs and prepare clear and concise reportsAbility to provide effective leadership and promote team buildingAbility to communicate effectively with internal/external contacts, other agencies and the publicPreferred Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:
Fire Officer Level 2 Certificate (Pro Board or IFSAC accredited)Incident Command Level 200 (Pro Board or IFSAC accredited)Incident Safety Officer (Pro Board or IFSAC accredited)Fire Service Instructor II CertificationRequired Licenses/Certificates/Qualifications (attach all required documents with your application):
All the required Licenses, Certificates and Registration listed in Job Description for Suppression FirefighterValid First Responder Level III with endorsementsValid BC Driver’s License (restriction code 15) with no more than six (6) points appearing in a current Personal Driving Record. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date of this competition.
