Salary Range: $44,331.00 to $46,331.00 annually
Position Purpose and Summary
The Resident Director fosters a Christ-centered residential community by providing leadership, programming, and mentorship that promote student learning, spiritual growth, and community engagement. The role oversees student care and conduct processes and offers staff support in crisis situations, including emergency mental health response, to ensure a safe and supportive living environment. This is a mid-level management role responsible for the oversight of residence operations, student staff supervision, and conduct administration within an assigned residential area.
By guiding student leaders and managing residence operations, the Resident Director contributes to the holistic development of students as godly Christian leaders and supports the university’s mission and values.
Key Areas of Accountability
Community Leadership and Development
Lead and manage a Christ-centered, inclusive, and supportive residence community that promotes academic, spiritual, and personal growth.
Guide students in understanding and living out the TWU Student Code of Conduct and other governing policies.
Support the transition of new students into residence life and foster a sense of belonging.
Establish and uphold community standards in alignment with university values and policies.
Student Leader Supervision and Development
Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders through large group training, weekly meetings, and one-on-one coaching.
Conduct evaluations, team-building activities, and retreats to support leadership development.
Deliver Residence Life Student Leadership Curriculum to our student leaders, through mentorship, assessment, and goal setting.
Coordinate student leader selection and orientation processes.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to ensure student leaders meet developmental and operational expectations.
Programming and Student Engagement
Lead the design and assessment of programming that supports student learning, spiritual life, and community engagement with student leaders.
Create a safe and inclusive environment through intentional events and initiatives.
Manage a residence programming budget effectively.
Operational Management
Oversee residence hall operations including check-in/check-out, maintenance coordination, and lounge space management.
Promote a culture of shared responsibility and care for the living environment among students.
Manage administrative processes including incident documentation, fires-safety procedures, space usage, and resource allocation.
Student Code of Conduct Administration
Educate students on university policies, including the Student Code of Conduct, Bullying and Harassment Policy, and Sexualized Violence Policy.
Serve as a Student Conduct Officer and participate in the student conduct process, through investigation, support persons and determinations with the responsibility of adjudicating cases.
Promote restorative practices and educational accountability practices within the residence community.
Crisis Response and Student Support
Provide emergency and after-hours support as part of the 24/7 on-call rotation.
Respond to student crises, including mental health concerns, conflict mediation, and urgent care needs.
Exercise sound judgment in crisis situations and coordinate with campus partners to ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
Offer referrals and collaborate with campus resources to ensure student well-being.
The Person
Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with student development theory, Christian higher education context, and university policy frameworks.
Strength in interpersonal communication, organizational leadership, and student mentorship. Skilled in conflict resolution, time and program management, assessment and reporting, administrative operations (including budgeting, scheduling, and documentation), policy enforcement and interpretation, and cross-departmental collaboration.
