Job Summary Full‑Time Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Langley Memorial Hospital in Langley, BC.
Provides clinical direction and advanced pharmaceutical care within a designated specialty area, including consultation, patient education, drug therapy management, guideline development, research, education, and participation in multidisciplinary and external committees.
Key Services
- Consult with internal and external health care professionals on the application of advanced theory to delivery of pharmaceutical care.
- Provide clinical direction on complex cases using evidence‑based evaluations for drug therapies and patient histories.
- Participate in patient education and discharge consultations and provide recommendations in planning and treatment assessment policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development of drug therapy guidelines for individual disease conditions.
- Identify and initiate clinical drug research.
- Prepare items such as case studies and articles for submission to professional journals.
- Conduct pharmacological education or in‑service sessions.
- Represent the department on multidisciplinary care committees and at external events.
Additional Focus
Ensure pharmacists have current information for validating prescriptions and identifying safety concerns.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Completion of an accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program.
- Post‑graduate Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.
- One year pharmacy experience in the designated specialty area.

Provides consultation services to internal and external health care professionals and applies advanced theory to assess, plan, implement and evaluate pharmaceutical care. Develops, plans, organizes and evaluates clinical, education and research activities within the designated specialty area.
Responsibilities
Provides consultation services and applies advanced theory to assess, plan, implement and evaluate delivery of pharmaceutical care in the designated specialty area.Provides clinical direction on complex cases, including the use of evidence-based approaches to evaluating drug therapy, attends patient care rounds, reviews medication histories, provides drug information, patient education and discharge consultations, and recommends decisions in planning and treatment assessment policies.Ensures mandatory quality assurance programs, maintains mandatory standards, participates in quality improvement activities, reviews adherence to program policies, recommends program modifications and prepares reports.Provides academic teaching and clinical instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and collaborates with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia.Identifies and initiates clinical drug research, develops hypotheses, oversees research activities, coordinates research assistants, students and pharmacists, collects and analyzes data, evaluates information, documents findings and writes articles for scientific journals.Conducts pharmacological education and in‑service sessions, and orientation sessions for pharmacy, program team members and other health care staff.Participates in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, prepares materials for formulary decisions, makes recommendations, conducts research, writes monographs or drug assessments for presentation.Participates in planning, implementation and evaluation of department therapeutic cost‑effectiveness and cost‑restraint programs.
