Dialysis Clinical Manager Registered Nurse - RN Purpose and Scope

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements. Ensures provision of quality patient care while maintaining cost‑effective clinical operations in accordance with legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements and programs. As the clinical leader, has authority to make daily decisions to ensure continuity of care and staff safety.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages the tactical execution of short- and long‑term objectives through the coordination of activities with direct responsibility for results, including costs, methods, and staffing.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and development plans for all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce; partners with Human Resources on employee matters.
  • Technically proficient in the specific department with knowledge of industry practice and business principles; addresses issues of diverse scope requiring evaluation of multiple factors.
  • Supports and drives FMS quality standards through meeting all ESRD regulatory requirements and the practice of Quality Assessment and Improvement (QAI), including use of FMS QAI tools.
  • Responds to adverse events and action thresholds.
  • Oversees facility’s Home Therapies Program if applicable.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Communicates and implements all FMS Clinical Quality policies and procedures to facility staff.
  • Maintains integrity of medical records and other FMS administrative and operational records.
  • Complies with all data collections and auditing activities.
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity, including safety.
  • Executes tactical operations, receives assignments as objectives and determines resource usage to meet schedules and goals.
  • Serves as an individual contributor with significant project/process responsibilities within the function.
  • Follows processes and operational policies for selecting methods and techniques, and interprets/recommends changes to policies.
  • Makes decisions impacting work processes and outcomes; erroneous decisions or failures to achieve results may add costs.
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and peer group managers across functional areas.
  • Participates and presents at meetings with internal and external representatives, often leading collaborative efforts.
  • Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Provides technical guidance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Patient Care
  • Coordinates all aspects of patient care from admission through discharge.
  • Educates patients regarding quality measures, transplant options, modality awareness and access care; ensures catheter reduction and adherence to treatment regimes.
  • Serves as resource for patient concerns and questions.
  • Ensures timely completion of patient care assessments and care plans by organizing Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
  • Directs initiation, maintenance and communication of efficient patient schedules to maximize facility station efficiency.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring each patient’s status, including hospitalizations, no‑shows, catheter use and significant changes.
  • Collaborates with the Director to develop action plans for unexcused and missed treatments.
  • Acts as liaison for patient care per disease management agreement, facilitating workup for access management, dialysis services, education, hospitalization and kidney transplantation; maintains communication with multidisciplinary renal team.
  • Communicates changes in patient status regarding clinical, insurance, travel and transportation issues to the disease management company; keeps current knowledge of disease management software and systems.
Staff
  • Implements FMS staffing and medical supply models to provide quality patient care and makes recommendations.
