Role OverviewAs part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you will help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Your work will support economic vitality, public safety, and quality of life by designing resilient highways and bridges, advancing transit, passenger and freight rail, aviation, federal transportation ports, and marine infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Partner with regional management and the Global Transit Market Sector Director to develop and execute transit and rail market strategies throughout the Central Region, including market opportunity assessment, client management, and coordination of technical and marketing teams.
- Lead multi‑disciplinary projects and programs across market sectors and geographic areas. Provide senior technical support, quality oversight, best‑practice development, and principal‑level program/project management.
- Drive program growth for transit, intercity, and freight rail market sectors. Maintain client relationships, recruit and develop staff, coordinate major pursuits, capture planning, and proposal preparation.
- Assist the Global Transit Market Sector Director in expanding services and winning contracts, supporting continuous improvement of the market, and ensuring alignment with client needs.
- Minimum of 10 years of transportation planning and/or engineering experience within a transit or rail market sector.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning, or a related field; engineering registration required if applicable.
- Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experience with a wide range of client relationships and program or project pursuits.
- Experience in staff development, recruiting, career pathing, and professional growth.
- Active engagement with industry associations and a visible profile in the market sector.
- Ability to work cooperatively with senior leaders across the organization.
- Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and active participation in employee‑owned culture.
- 15 years of leadership experience in transit engineering and planning services for major infrastructure development.
- Experience with major capital programs from planning through design and construction for public and private clients.
- Deep client relationships with transit and rail agencies in the Central Region and a proven track record of success.
- Experience with transit funding programs and eligibility requirements.
- Experience managing strategic marketing programs within the transportation industry.

CompensationTypical starting pay range for this position:
- Colorado: $162,205 – $210,430 annually (depending on skills, experience, education, and location).
- Minnesota: $174,342 – $249,060 annually.
- Illinois: $174,342 – $249,060 annually.
