Lead Drainage Engineer – Michigan transportation practice. Under the direction of our Senior Hydraulic Design Manager, you will work on roadway drainage design projects across Michigan and Ohio with flexible work options.
Responsibilities- Engineering design for roadway drainage and design-build projects: collector streets, urban arterials, rural and urban expressways, interstates, and bridge replacements.
- Assist in all aspects of roadway drainage design including bridge hydraulic studies, culvert design, closed drainage system design, post‑construction water‑quality structure design, and erosion & sedimentation control.
- Prepare construction plans, project displays, cost estimates, reports, and technical memos.
- Utilize design software:
Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Excel, GIS, HEC‑RAS, HY8, Flow Master, ICPR, Storm
CAD, SMS, SRH2D, and HEC‑RAS 2D. - Coordinate with project managers, ecologists, and roadway engineers.
- Direct junior engineer design activities.
- 7+ years of drainage design and project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Experience working on MDOT projects a plus.
- Basic understanding of FEMA floodplain regulations.
- Knowledge of stormwater design (open channel conveyance and closed drainage systems) and treatment using BMPs.
- Proficiency in software platforms:
Bentley’s Storm
CAD, Culvert Master, Flow Master, ICPR, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY8, SWMM, SMS, SRH2D, HEC‑RAS 2D. - Strong communication and teamwork skills, flexibility to complete a range of tasks including field work.
- Initiative and ability to tackle new projects and challenges.
- NCEES record a plus.
Salary: $107,281 – $132,761. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, EAP, 401(k), STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program, wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement. Nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year.
