The position supports the Pharmaceutical Calibrations and Instrumentation (PCI) team and involves on-site calibration and maintenance of process and analytical instrumentation at client pharmaceutical facilities in Michigan and surround states if needed. The position may include a company vehicle. Up to fifty percent travel may be required based on project and client needs; most work is in Michigan.
Key focus areas include maintenance, calibrations and repairs on a variety of instruments such as refrigerators, freezers, transmitters, monitors, incubators, centrifuges, autoclaves, pipettes, balances, and pressure/temperature devices. Computer-based calibration tracking (CMMS) experience is desirable.
This is a non-exempt role reporting to the Team Leader, Manager, or Director depending on structure.
Responsibilities/Assignments- Oversee and supervise calibrations, qualifications, and PMs with accurate and timely GxP documentation, ensuring adherence to PCI or client-specific policies and procedures in a safe manner.
- Provide guidance and effective solutions to clients and PCI technical resources.
- Uphold PCI values; mentor and role-model honesty, integrity, pride, accountability, teamwork, and commitment.
- Proactively ensure PCI and client-owned equipment is properly handled and maintained; train other associates on proper use and handling.
- Develop client quotes and proposals.
- Provide oversight and project planning including time codes, schedules, test equipment, documentation, and ensure client requirements are met. Manage scheduling, resource allocation, proposal and quotation development, Labor Utilization Reports (LURs), fixed cost and T&E project management to ensure profitability; identify scope changes and communicate them to the client while ensuring accurate time coding and billing.
- Assess project safety concerns and ensure compliance with client and PCI safety requirements.
- Strategically assess client environments to develop and initiate effective solutions and deliver successful execution through strong client relationships.
- Take client relations initiative and proactively seek to expand PCI services; may lead projects and serve as Account Manager for select clients based on needs.
- Expert knowledge and application of instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations across manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
- Exceptional CMMS skills.
- Experience with MAS
500 Pivot Table and project KPI module to support team leaders and project managers with LURs and project expenses. - Develops and updates PCI Policies and Procedures; understands regulations and calibration principles; provides training and guidance to Tech I/II resources.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with clients and coworkers.
- Thorough electrical panel knowledge and safety practices.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence policy and process development aligned with PCI objectives.
- Understanding of business case, financial implications, and strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- PCI Trained Mentor; involved in onboarding, provides training, with knowledge of FDA, GMP, GLP, compliance, and NIST traceability; expertise with test equipment and tolerance requirements (4:1 TAR).
- Active involvement with external professional organizations (ISPE, ASQ, PDA, etc.); external certification preferred (ISA, ASQ, etc.).
A four-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or other related technical field, or equivalent military training with four or more years of Metrology/Instrumentation/Calibration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Quality System/Pharmaceutical experience is required.
