This position provides second-level advanced legal secretarial duties for the Civil Rights and Special Initiatives Division Chief. It performs complex administrative legal secretarial activities in matters involving complex litigation and administrative secretarial activities. The position serves as a liaison to the Division Chief, staff attorneys, federal and state courts; reviewing, prioritizing, and preparing draft responses to a large volume of pleadings and correspondence, including conducting independent research and handling confidential information;
compiling department reports; docketing case files; scheduling meetings and hearings; and other tasks required to meet the department’s goals and objectives.
- Perform advanced legal secretarial duties for the Division Chief.
- Serve as a liaison to the Division Chief, staff attorneys, and federal and state courts.
- Review, prioritize, and prepare draft responses to a large volume of pleadings and correspondence.
- Conduct independent research and handle confidential information.
- Compile department reports.
- Docket case files.
- Schedule meetings and hearings.
Requires advanced legal secretarial and administrative skills, the ability to exercise discretion, act independently, and communicate effectively with parties.
EducationHigh school completion.
ExperienceFive years of typing-related administrative support experience, including two years involving legal secretarial practices equivalent to a Legal Secretary E8.
