Job Summary :
The Chronic Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering and coordinating clinically competent care for patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). This includes hemodialysis treatment, patient education, and collaboration with care teams. The RN will contribute to quality improvement activities and may provide oversight to patient care staff. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform assessments, interventions, and evaluations before, during, and after dialysis sessions
• Update treatment plans and collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications and initiate emergency response as needed
• Educate patients and families on dialysis care and treatment modalities
• Monitor and ensure compliance with clinical procedures and safety standards
• Supervise and guide direct care staff including LVNs, LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians
• Maintain patient records and document treatment outcomes
• Support new staff orientation and contribute to staff training
• Coordinate lab collection, processing, and reporting
• Participate in quality assurance and clinical audits

Required Experience:

• At least 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience within the past 2 years
• Chronic hemodialysis experience required
• Experience supervising direct care teams in a dialysis setting

Licensure & Education:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Current RN license in Michigan
• Current BLS Certification
• Must meet Michigan practice requirements for RNs

Preferred Skills:

• Strong documentation and patient communication skills
• Familiarity with transplant education and treatment options
• Ability to assess and manage patient care needs autonomously
• Experience supporting high-acuity or high-volume dialysis units

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Heavy lifting, patient ambulation assistance, standing for long periods
• May be exposed to infectious materials and dialysis chemicals
• Equipment handling up to 200 lbs. with assistance
• Requires Ishihara Color Blindness test (reasonable accommodations considered)
• May require occasional travel to training or satellite sites

Supervision Requirements:
May serve as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge, overseeing direct care staff after meeting the following:

• Minimum 9 months RN experience
• Minimum 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as an RN
• Completion of internal training/certification programs
