Position Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care, medication administration, and health monitoring to youth in a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). A PRTF is a structured treatment environment for children and adolescents who require 24/7 supervision, mental health services, and ongoing medical support in a residential setting. Most youth served are between the ages of 12 and 17 and present with behavioral and emotional needs that require consistent structure and support.
Schedule and Compensation
Full‑time position: 36.5 hours per week with fixed schedule:
Mondays 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, Tuesdays 8:00 AM–8:30 PM, Wednesdays 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, Saturdays 2:00 PM–10:00 PM. Pay begins at $25 per hour, with opportunities for wage growth as the program expands.
Team and Mission
The LPN works under the supervision of the RN (Medical Coordinator) and collaborates with residential, clinical, and administrative staff to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant care. The nursing team values communication, teamwork, and calm presence. Duties
- Administer medications and maintain accurate medication administration records (MARs) and required documentation.
- Monitor youth health, complete vital signs and screenings, and follow RN and physician orders.
- Respond to medical concerns, injuries, and emergencies using agency protocols.
- Communicate health updates and concerns to the RN/Medical Coordinator and treatment team.
- Provide trauma‑informed support and basic health education to youth.
- Maintain and track medical supplies and ensure proper storage of medications.
- Participate in crisis intervention alongside program staff.
- Adhere to Michigan Licensing Rules, PRTF requirements, and internal policies.
- Complete required trainings and maintain necessary certifications.
- Document services and interventions in real time to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Active, unrestricted Michigan LPN license.
- Preferred experience in psychiatric, pediatric, residential, or crisis care settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work effectively with youth.
- Ability to stay calm and follow procedures during crises or medical incidents.
- Commitment to trauma‑informed, ethical, and professional care.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently during assigned shifts.
