Registered Nurse Weekend - Medical Surgical (9E)
Overview of the role and responsibilities on the Medical Surgical unit (9E) for weekend night coverage.
Responsibilities- Deliver nursing care within the assigned unit scope of practice following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice.
- Assess each assigned patient, document and evaluate their response to the plan of care, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Plan and implement the patient’s plan of care/standard of care and provide patient teaching using the plan of care/standard of care.
- Oversee all ancillary personnel for technical tasks.
- Seek to improve quality of service by continuously developing individual and unit competencies within scope of practice.
- Integrate evidence-based practice by incorporating research on best practices and clinical pathways; participate in ongoing studies and promote dissemination of research through professional forums including presentations and publications.
- Measure, identify, and implement strategies to improve clinical practice outcomes and patient safety initiatives; design and monitor system nursing improvement plans.
- Analyze data to determine outcomes of infection prevention, nursing sensitive indicators, clinical effectiveness, standardization of processes, and patient safety measures and initiatives including AOA standards and CMS guidelines.
- Assume the role of contact nurse as defined on each unit.
- Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.
- Employees hired into a full-time weekend position shall commit to work 72 hours per pay period between 7:00 a.m. Friday and 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. Part-time Weekend Baylor position shall commit to work 48 hours per pay period between 7:00 a.m. Friday and 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience in a specialty area; unit/position-specific experience may be required to maintain overall competency.
- Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as Healthcare Provider.
- ACLS/NRP/PALS as required within specified timelines (ACLS within six months for RNs in Critical Care, Emergency, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Intensive Care Unit and Step-Down; NRP for RNs in Labor and Delivery; PALS for RNs in Pediatrics; PALS and TNCC within one year for the Emergency Department).
- One year of professional nursing experience.
- ACLS is preferred in other units.
