Pay Range

Base pay range: $17.00/hr - $17.00/hr

Position Summary

The Kitchen Assistant supports daily food service in the residential facility. This role is responsible for preparing dinner each evening, following a set menu, and preparing weekend heat‑and‑serve meals for staff use. The Kitchen Assistant also helps keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards. Occasional support at a second location may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily dinners for youth based on the set menu.
  • Prepare and package weekend heat‑and‑serve meals for staff use.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen.
  • Follow Safe‑Serve and food safety standards at all times.
  • Assist with basic menu prep under the direction of the Kitchen Manager.
  • Label, store, and handle food safely.
  • Monitor inventory and notify the Kitchen Manager when supplies are low.
  • Assist at the second facility when needed.
  • Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of experience cooking for groups or in a kitchen setting.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Safe‑Serve Certification required, or must be obtained immediately after hire.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work the scheduled shifts, including Friday evenings.
  • Occasional driving or travel between locations may be required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in a warm or fast‑paced kitchen environment.
