Diesel Mechanic Technician – Ryder Supply Chain Solutions

Permanent Full‑Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Position Description
  • Hourly Pay: $33.50 per hour
  • Sign On Bonus: $2000 at 30 days and $2000 at 90 days
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) required
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
  • Schedule:

    Monday‑Friday, Weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    Second Shift, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:
    • Standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance
    • Complex mechanical and electronic diagnostics using a diagnostic computer when applicable
    • Detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
    • Replacement of defective components as instructed
    • Unsupervised work on most tasks
  • Performs facility maintenance duties
  • Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
  • Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation
  • Works in compliance with all federal, provincial, and corporate guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
  • Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents
  • Completes other support duties as required, such as Service Island support
  • Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete 2 OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location (within 365 days)
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree preferred
  • Basic tools required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
    • Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
    • Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems
  • Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
  • All other required certifications (as required by location)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
  • Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
