Lead HVAC Installer Job Description
We are seeking a skilled sheet metal installer to join our team in the HVAC heating and cooling industry. The position involves fabricating and installing ductwork in both new construction and renovation commercial building projects. The ideal candidate will create ductwork on-site and install it according to construction documents. The position is also known as "tin knocker" and requires the ability to drive up to 40 miles from GR to the job site.
Responsibilities- Fabricate and install HVAC ductwork in commercial buildings.
- Work from construction documents to ensure accurate installation.
- Drive to job sites located up to 40 miles from GR.
- Utilize PPE and a basic tool belt for installations.
- 5+ years of experience in installing HVAC ductwork.
- 3-5 years of experience reading blueprints.
- 3-5 years of commercial building experience.
- Reliable transportation for travel to projects in West Michigan.
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of service HVAC systems and controls.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems on existing equipment.
- 3+ years of commercial experience in ductwork installation.
- Leadership experience with apprentices and training.
- Possession of personal hand tools: hammer, tape measures, screwdrivers, and cutters.

Work EnvironmentWork the 1st shift from 6 am to 2/3 pm, in 8-9 hour shifts. Required PPE includes steel‑toed boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, and a reflective vest. Work on construction‑based projects alongside other trades and team members, with projects currently in Battle Creek, Holland, Muskegon, and Comstock areas.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
