Position Summary: The Certified Pharmacy Technician prepares medication needed for any patient type under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Assists the pharmacist with all aspects of pharmacy duties. Responsible for inpatient and outpatient computer charge entries. Maintains appropriate inventory levels and medications needed in automated dispensing units. Assists the pharmacy buyer in inventory control and can order through wholesaler in their absence.

Works in compliance with Federal and State regulations, HFAP accreditation standards, and financial management.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Fills patient's new and current medications including unit dose, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, bulk, and compound.
  • All duties are under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Fills and maintains medication inventory (including controlled substances) on all automated dispensing units, OR trays, Crash Carts, ALS/EMS boxes, and the medical center Night Cart.
  • Prepares pre-outpatient surgery orders.

Required:

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mathematical proficiency
  • Data entry experience
  • Active State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician License

Preferred:

  • Previous computer experience
  • Experience with automated dispensing units
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Associate’s Degree
