5-Axis CNC Machinist - Mastercam

5-Axis CNC Machinist Mastercam Lapeer , MIUp to $32.00/Hourly Based on Experience1st or 2nd Shift Opportunity We are hiring an experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinist in Lapeer, MI to set up, program, and operate vertical and horizontal 5-axis machining centers in a precision manufacturing environment. This role requires 5+ years of CNC machining experience and 2+ years of Mastercam experience, with expertise in CNC setup, GD&T, tooling, machining processes, and equipment such as Zimmermann, Apec, FPT, and Mecof machining centers.

• Set up and operate vertical and horizontal 5-axis CNC machining centers to perform surfacing, profiling, boring, facing, threading, and other machining operations on castings, weldments, forgings, plates, blocks, and tubing.
• Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, material specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, machining parameters, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Program 5-axis CNC machines using Mastercam.
• Perform machine setups, including tooling, offsets, compensation, and tooling requirement calculations using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Prove out part programs and perform 3-point workpiece setups using stock models and tooling balls.
• Set up and secure large work pieces on horizontal machining centers.
• Verify machine setups by checking head clearance, machine travel, positioning, first-run parts, and sample work pieces.
• Monitor machining operations and take precision measurements to maintain specifications and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot machining processes, perform root-cause analysis, adjust and program controls, and replace worn tooling as required.
• Follow quality assurance procedures and applicable manufacturing standards.
• Perform preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer requirements and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.
• Document and communicate production actions, irregularities, non-conformities, and continuing requirements between shifts.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Programming, Materials, and Quality teams as needed.
• Complete production and quality documentation using Plex ERP.
• Follow established safety procedures, security protocols, environmental policies, and PPE requirements.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience across multiple 5-axis machining applications, including Zimmermann, Apec, FPT, and Mecof.
• Minimum 2 years of Mastercam experience.
• Experience setting up and operating vertical and horizontal 5-axis CNC machining centers.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, machining specifications, and GD&T.
• Working knowledge of tooling, offsets, compensation, basic fixturing, machining parameters, and CNC setup procedures.
• Ability to perform machining calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, geometry, and trigonometry.
• General knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), including ISO 9001 and AS9100.
• General knowledge of 5S manufacturing practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and make appropriate machine or process adjustments.
• Ability to complete production and quality documentation using Plex ERP.
• Ability to follow applicable quality and environmental policies, safety procedures, security protocols, and PPE requirements.
• Must meet company requirements for background checks, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing.

• Experience with Heidenhain and Fidia CNC controls.
• Crane experience.
• Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 14001 environmental management requirements.
