The Shipping & Receiving Clerk coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment. The following duties are performed:
- Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, production orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
- Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
- Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.
- Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
- Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.
- Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
- Resolves receiving discrepancies from suppliers.
- Coordinates all outgoing shipments with respective dock times.
- Schedules pick‑up times with customer logistics department.
- Posts weight and shipping charges.
- Coordinates material flow for commercial customers with scheduled dock times.
- Prepares bills of lading.
- Maintains time records.
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of shipping methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Adjusts errors and complaints.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to produce accurate work meeting company standards, requiring little or no rework.
- Searches out new tasks and expands ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.
- Punctuality and attendance.
- Willingness and cooperativeness with co‑workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO
14001 environmental standards. - Adherence to safety procedures, security protocol, and proper PPE usage.
Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus five to seven years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- Five to seven years related experience and/or training.
- At least 3 months experience operating a forklift.
Background Prerequisites
- Must undergo background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO
14001.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Employee may stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle and reach with arms.
- Employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
