Structural Fitter

Job Description

The Structural Fitter fabricates and assembles steel frames, beams, and industrial equipment structures as part of a dedicated fitting crew. Reporting to a fabrication supervisor, this role partners closely with welders and coordinates with engineering and quality teams to ensure accurate fit-up, safe material handling, and high-quality completed assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine fabrication and assembly requirements.
• Fabricate and assemble structural steel frames, beams, and industrial equipment structures.
• Align and fit components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Prepare assemblies for welding and perform fit-up inspections before welding.
• Operate overhead cranes, rigging, plasma cutters, torches, magnetic drills, grinders, and automated fabrication machinery.
• Perform dimensional verification and self-checks against drawings.
• Handle materials safely throughout fabrication.
• Complete formal quality documentation and support quality control activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience in structural steel fitting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
