Job TitleVisiting Assistant Professor in Native American and Indigenous Studies (American Cultural Studies)
Job PurposeThe Department of American Cultural Studies at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a one‑year Visiting Assistant Professor in Native American and Indigenous Studies to begin in the fall of 2026. Area of specialization within NAIS and the humanities is open but applicants working in gender and sexuality studies, film and media studies, indigenous social movements, and environmental studies are strongly encouraged to apply.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience working with Indigenous peoples and Nations and should be able to apply critical, indigenizing, decolonial, and culturally sustaining methods to their instruction.
The successful applicant will have a 3/2 teaching load in the Department of American Cultural Studies. AMCS at UW houses undergraduate and Master's degrees in American Studies, a major and minor in NAIS, and minors in African‑American studies, Gender and Queer studies, and Latino/a studies. The successful candidate will teach courses foundational to the major and minor in NAIS as well as the broader curriculum in American Studies.
The candidate will also organize a Native American and Indigenous Studies speaker's series based on their research and trends in the field.
- Teach a 3/2 course load in Native American and Indigenous Studies.
- Participate in the intellectual life of AMCS with undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty.
- Assist with the revision of the B.A. in NAIS.
- Organize a lecture series in Native American and Indigenous Studies.
- Pursue an active research agenda.
- PhD in the humanities or related social sciences.
- Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.
- A scholar and teacher with expertise in NAIS as well as one or more of the following areas: gender and sexuality studies, film and critical media studies, indigenous social movements, environmental studies.
