Albany County Court Supervised Treatment Program is looking for a Specimen Collections Technician. The ideal candidate is energetic, positive person that is reliable, self‑motivated, and willing to be a team player.

In this role, you will be responsible for collecting urine and oral fluid (saliva) samples in accordance with our program’s testing requirements, analyzing samples as well as data entry. Due to the nature of the position, including observation of intimate areas for male participants, we are only seeking interested male applicants for this position at this time.

This is a part‑time, non‑benefited position. Work hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, and Mondays and Saturdays, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Workdays do include weekends and holidays. Pay is $15.00 per hour.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Perform reception area duties including greeting customers and receiving incoming calls
  • Act as an additional resource for administrative tasks such as intakes and monitor sobriety of participants/customers
  • Collect urine samples from same sex participants/customers (training will be provided)
  • Log, order, process, and ship urine and oral specimens to the laboratory
  • Ability to run urine analyzer (training will be provided)
  • Maintain organization of collection site
  • File requisitions, chain of custody forms and associated paperwork
  • Monitor inventory and notify Program Director when supplies are needed
  • Communicate with Program Case Managers and/or Program Director regarding participant inquiries or issues as they arise
  • Ability to work professionally, maintain confidential information and establish ethical boundaries with participants
  • Ability to work individually or in a team environment
  • Ability to meet employers’ policy and procedures
  • Ability to stay focused on daily tasks, which may include data entry into various case management systems.
  • Participate in other projects or duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • HS diploma, GED or Hiset
  • Customer service experience (medical or criminal justice field preference but not required)
  • Ability to collect observed and unobserved urinalysis collections and other biological specimens, as needed
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively handling tight deadlines and de‑escalating communications with participants in potentially stressful situations
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software

** This is a grant‑funded position. If the program loses grant funding, then this position will be discontinued.**
