Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Hired Bar has been exclusively engaged to hire a Scientist III to join the plant science team based in Laramie, WY. In this role, the Scientist III will help advance the future of high‑flavor, high‑quality strawberries grown in controlled environments. This is a high‑visibility role owning trial design, crop physiology insights, and agronomic strategies that directly shape Plenty’s next‑generation strawberry products.

You’ll drive the scientific discoveries that improve yield, quality, and consistency across Plenty’s commercial strawberry platform. Your research will influence germplasm selection, environmental recipes, propagation methods, and operational practices.

If you thrive at the intersection of plant science, experimentation, and technology — you'll be at home here.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, execute, and analyze high‑impact strawberry trials across germplasm, environment, propagation, and management.
  • Partner with Grow Ops, Engineering, Data Science, Product, and R&D to run statistically robust experiments.
  • Use imaging, sensors, and real‑time monitoring tools to uncover insights that improve yield and quality.
  • Present findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Serve as an SME in two or more areas: germplasm, propagation, environmental physiology, crop management.
  • Contribute to SOPs, training, mentoring, and hands‑on research execution.
  • Travel up to 30% to various sites as needed.
What You Bring
  • PhD in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, or related field — or MS + 8 years relevant industry experience.
  • Strong background in plant physiology, stress responses, nutrition, photosynthesis, or environmental manipulation.
  • Experience designing multifactor trials (CEA, greenhouse, or field).
  • Proficiency with statistical tools (R, Python, SAS).
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate insights clearly.
  • Curiosity, experimentation mindset, and comfort operating in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company does not provide visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Experience
  • Controlled environment agriculture (CEA), vertical farming, greenhouse production, or berry crops.
  • Hands‑on use of imaging, sensing, or automation technology.
  • Demonstrated impact turning experimental results into operational decisions.

Relocation will be supported for applicants who currently reside more than 50 miles from Laramie, WY
