An exciting opportunity has arisen within Forth Valley Royal Hospital for an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to join the respiratory specialist nursing team. The Respiratory Nursing Team provides a specialist service to adult respiratory patients with a range of respiratory conditions including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, (COPD) interstitial lung disease, (ILD) bronchiectasis and asthma. Whilst patients are predominantly seen as an in‑patient we are excited to be expanding our service to include the ability to see patients at home, where clinically indicated, providing hospital‑level care for respiratory conditions in the patient’s own home.

Respiratory Hospital at Home is designed to facilitate early supported discharge of patients from acute medical beds and prevent hospital admissions of patients with respiratory illnesses in the community, so creating a virtual ward.

Respiratory Virtual wards are an area of rapid development within the NHS and we are looking for an individual who posses enhanced levels of clinical judgement, skills and knowledge of the management of patients with acute and chronic respiratory disease. The post holder will require to demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries in partnership with other acute care nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and senior management teams.

The applicant should posses the ability to prioritise fluctuating workloads, remain focused, and be flexible in an extremely busy environment. The successful candidate will join the team and develop and apply specialist respiratory care in a variety of settings following a rotation model thereby maintaining a depth and breadth of specialist expertise.

The successful candidate will be supported in their professional development of enhanced clinical knowledge and clinical decision‑making skills.

Qualifications to be undertaken if not already obtained:
  • Non‑medical prescribing NMC registered
  • Focused Advanced Clinical Examination accredited course
  • Asthma Diploma Module
  • COPD Diploma module

The completion of this will be mandatory within an agreed time frame.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. More information on this scheme can be found at
