An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join our integrated stroke unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The unit is a 23‑bed acute stroke ward providing 24‑hour assessment and ongoing care. We look for enthusiastic, highly motivated nurses who deliver excellent standards of care even under pressure, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As part of a multi‑disciplinary team you will work closely within the stroke services and maintain regular contact with other specialties across the hospital and community settings.
The unit contains hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation sections. All staff have the opportunity to work in the hyperacute section, caring for patients directly from the ED following thrombolysis or direct admissions.
Responsibilities- Assess patient suitability for thrombolysis in the ED and liaise with the Stroke Consultant.
- Provide assessment, delivery and supervision of care for stroke patients across all unit sections.
- Ensure smooth, timely and appropriate transfer of patients from AAU and ED to the Acute Stroke Unit in line with the current Stroke Improvement Plan.
- Participate in ongoing training, completion of specific stroke core competencies and Stroke and TIA assessment modules.
- Act as a role model for junior and unregistered staff, supporting the development of the unit and the improvement of care standards.
- Registered Nurse (band
5) with a keen interest in stroke care. - Previous experience in stroke or a related acute care area is desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of core and advanced stroke modules is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Full‑time working week: 36 hours per week from 1 April 2026 with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
