Position: Lifeguard, (Part-time/No Benefits), (A263120-1), 201, Aquatics

Part‑Time Position Without Benefits

Performs lifesaving skills, provides instructional swimming lessons to children and adults, and performs routine maintenance on pool and pool facilities. Monitors all activities within the pool facility. Maintains flexible schedule for rotation to various pool sites.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Physically able to perform lifesaving skills, pool maintenance, record keeping, sanitation, and instruction.
  • Must be able to perform swimming pool duties as required, such as:
    • Maintaining swimming pool facilities
    • Sanitation daily
    • Vacuuming
    • Filtration
    • Maintaining pool grounds indoor/outdoors
    • Other duties specified by the Aquatic Supervisor
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and prompt.
  • Must be able to participate and attend workshops.
  • Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co‑workers and the general public.
  • Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
  • Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.

  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.
Work Environment / Conditions and Physical Demands

Physical effort requirements:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Lifeguard Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR for Pro Certificate

Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out‑of‑state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.

Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety‑ sensitive functions/positions, per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
