The Head Strength Coach is responsible for the development and administration of individualized speed and strength conditioning programs for student- athletes to optimize performance. Advises head coach in conditioning and evaluates various components of fitness in the athletes. Assists trainers in developing rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop the strength and conditioning programs for intercollegiate programs that includes cardiovascular demands by sports, flexibility/stretching program, etc. Emphasis will be placed on implementation, supervision and teaching progressions for: resistance training, cardiovascular, speed, plyometric, flexibility and functional movement.

Responsible for continuous testing and evaluations of student‑athletes on a routine basis and maintaining accurate electronic records for each team and student‑athletes to monitor progress.

Conduct orientation sessions to demonstrate modalities of physical training and motivate student‑athletes to reach their potential while providing direct instruction to all student‑athletes, as well as providing assessment and documentation tools, to assure proper explanation of training techniques.

Coordinate schedule between coaches and facility availability.

Coordinate student‑athlete rehabilitation workouts with sports medicine.

Support education for student‑athletes about nutrition and supplementation.

Identify necessary strength and conditioning equipment purchases.

Hiring, supervising, and training student workers assigned to the weight room.

Manage and operate within the budget parameters, without exception, and submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by the Director of Athletics.

Must be present at athletic competitions, and other official University functions. Occasional travel with teams as needed.

Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies and procedural manuals as well as ethical standards of behavior. Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA by‑laws and Lone Star conference regulations. As per NCAA rule, 17.02.14.1 Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification, responsible for maintaining certification(s)/licensure(s) from a nationally recognized strength and conditioning program required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s).

Certification must be from any of the following organizations: NSCA, CSCS and SCCC.

Will perform light maintenance and rearrange fitness equipment as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Experience

Two or more years demonstrated experience in strength and conditioning, preferably in a university or scholastic setting.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • General exercise equipment, proper layout, preventative maintenance, and foreseeable needs.

Ability to:

  • Maintain strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain strong public relations and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally.
  • Be committed to student learning and success, as well as a dedication to growth, development, innovation, and improvement.
  • Be sensitive to students of varied backgrounds (academic, socioeconomic, physical/learning disabilities).
  • Possess commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA and Lone Star conference rules.
Preferred Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Kinesiology or similar field.

Licensing / Professional Certification

Must hold current certification from any of the following organizations: NSCA, CSCS and SCCC.

First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift at least lb. plate for safety.
