This is difficult and responsible work, providing close first-line supervision to personnel and activities on a shift in the Communications Center. This position is responsible for ensuring that quality customer telecommunications service is delivered to members of the community and the department courteously, professionally, and timely. Work is performed under the direction of the Emergency Communications Manager. Employees are subject to rotating shift assignments, including working weekends and holidays.

Directs and supervises Emergency Communications Dispatchers assigned to the Communications Center each shift
Schedules personnel for appropriate staffing levels; coordinates training for new personnel; plans and coordinates development of employees, which includes providing professional growth opportunities to subordinates
Reviews and evaluates subordinate’s work performance; recommends disciplinary action, as required; counsels subordinates and assists as necessary in any work-related problems, and when requested, directs the employee to the proper resource for assistance with personnel problems
Enforces the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the department; takes the initiative to identify and resolve problems
Assists in the preparation and control of the budget; maintains records and data for statistical analysis, as required
TechnicalReceives in-coming calls for service; handles complaints from citizens

Coordinates the Communications Center activities during difficult situations and/or major emergencies
Performs short and long-range planning and assists in meeting established goals and objectives
Inputs, accesses, and retrieves data from computer systems
Deals with equipment malfunctions and schedules maintenance of the Communications Center equipment
Acts as the liaison with police operational supervisors

Collaborates with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and takes personal accountability and ownership of projects, roles, and assignments
Actively participates/engages with fellow supervisors in monthly management team meetings
