We are seeking caring, compassionate, mission‑driven Counselors to work specifically with children and their families who have come to the attention of the Child Protective Investigation Division of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, and who have been determined to be safe but at high risk of future child abuse and neglect. Together, We Rise (TWR) will work with all members of the family with a team‑based approach in a supportive, empowering, and respectful manner to assist the family with creating safe and stable parenting practices that facilitate long‑term behavioral change, ensuring that children are safe at home.

Responsibilities include strong teamwork with other team members to provide a supportive, empowering, and respectful relationship with families to facilitate change, emphasizing action by providing concrete services and family interventions. The counselor will provide exclusively in‑home therapeutic services aimed at strengthening the protective capacities of primary and secondary caregivers, focusing on the identification and resolution of interpersonal conflicts such as domestic violence and addressing trauma related to adverse childhood experiences.

The counselor will be an active participant in the Integrated Decision Team (IDT) process and will provide face‑to‑face visits with the family at the required frequency to mitigate the risk of future abuse or neglect. This is a field‑based position; all services must be conducted face‑to‑face, with no remote or virtual services. The counselor will start where the client is, using a strength‑based emotional support approach to help the client identify strengths and build on them.

Directions for Living is an essential services provider. All Employees must be willing and able to provide vital support and essential services to the people we serve during emergencies, pandemics, or other disaster situations.

• Minimum 2‑year experience working with at‑risk populations, including families experiencing substance misuse, domestic violence, mental health issues, and emotionally disturbed children.
• Have a Master’s Degree in Human Services or related field from an accredited institution.
• Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) preferred.
