Greater Ridgecrest Branch, YMCA of the Suncoast
Rate of pay: $14.70/hr – $27.10/hr (based on qualifications)
Shift: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 9:00 am – energize morning cycling classes.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Fitness Director/Coordinator, the instructor leads safe, effective and fun group exercise, enhances program quality and retains participants.
Education, Training &
Experience:
Must be at least 16 years old. Complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You:
Service with CARE upon hire. Within 90 days: CPR, AED, First Aid certification and Foundation of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y or Group Exercise at the Y trainings required. Get SMART preferred.
Special Skills or Equipment
Required:
Effective communication and positive attitude. Knowledge of exercise class structure, cueing technique, choreography and exercise variety.
Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
Physical stamina and agility for extended periods.
Group Exercise Instructor Job
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Prepares room prior to class to ensure it starts on time.
- Responsible for choreography and music selection that meets YMCA guidelines.
- Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity, keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of all audio equipment (mic, cd, batteries, etc.).
- Responsible for the care, returning, and storage of all class equipment.
- Exercises sound judgment in relationship to class safety and injuries. Understand es and follows all emergency procedures.
- Engages in positive public relations with members. Role models SMART.
- Maintains an air of professionalism at all times.
- Wears appropriate dress code approved uniform while on duty.
- Attends all staff meetings, in-house trainings, demonstrations and special promotions as designated by supervisor.
- Each instructor is responsible for covering his/her own class when unable to attend. Fitness director is a last resort for assistance. Instructor could be replaced if they are consistently unable to meet the schedule of their class.
