Job Description
The Medical Assistant – Front/Back Swing, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Practice Leader, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management. This role assists providers within scope of practice to provide quality patient care. Duties include gathering patient information, assessing requests, obtaining and monitoring vitals, assisting with procedures and re‑processing instruments.
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, document reason for visit, and record symptom frequency and severity.
- Provide courteous and compassionate care.
- Document all required information in the electronic medical record, including meaningful use data, pay‑for‑performance data, and ACO related information. Experience with Allscripts is preferred.
- Administer injections, immunizations and other patient services as ordered by the provider.
- Assist during medical procedures.
- Handle communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals.
- Use electronic medical records to manage task lists and complete patient visits or requests.
- Recognize urgent medical needs and triage care appropriately.
- Provide patients with accurate information and answer questions.
- Maintain patient records and protect confidentiality.
- Complete referrals accurately.
- Maintain patient areas and supplies; disinfect exam rooms between patients and at end of day.
- Assist with clinic upkeep, daily cleaning and supply ordering/inventory.
- Answer telephones cheerfully.
- Schedule appointments and take messages via EMR.
- Greet and check in patients.
- Address patient requests and inquiries, resolve concerns.
- Process insurance verifications and authorizations and assist patients in understanding insurance plans.
- Return calls as required.
- Perform various assigned administrative processes.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program such as NHA or AMCA.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
- Minimum one year of medical‑assisting experience in a physician’s office or equivalent.
- Re‑processing/ procedural experience highly preferred.
