Target Salary: Commensurate with qualifications, anticipated range $175,000‑$200,000
HEST welcomes applications for the Associate Dean for Academics (ADA), a strategic leadership position responsible for oversight of academic units, instructional programs, and student success initiatives. The ADA works collaboratively with a diverse community of nearly 3,000 undergraduates, 1,200 graduate students, 200 faculty, and 200 staff across nine academic units, promoting social transformation through education, research, and community outreach.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and oversight for HEST’s academic mission, ensuring alignment with university policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement new standard practices and procedures related to the college’s academic mission.
- Coordinate updates of the university catalog, course scheduling, new degree and program development, and academic policy changes.
- Assist departments in marketing, benchmarking, and establishing new degrees, concentrations, and minors to support program sustainability and growth.
- Monitor compliance with accreditation standards and support departments through the accreditation process.
- Serve as the HEST Higher Learning Commission (HLC) liaison and coordinate the college’s contributions to the HLC accreditation process.
- Oversee student recruitment, success, and retention efforts in alignment with NMSU’s land‑grant mission.
- Inform and strategize with departments on student success outcomes, including enrollment trends, retention rates, and graduation rates.
- Develop and support initiatives that promote access, persistence, and success for first‑generation and other underserved student populations.
- Coordinate the process for student grievances and appeals at the college level.
- Provide direction to the college scholarship committee and oversee scholarship award processes.
- Supervise professional, technical, and support staff and student workers.
- Oversee HEST student organizations.
- Collaborate with NMSU Global Campus, Graduate School, Student Success, Honors College, Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity, and HEST Diversity Council on college and university‑wide projects.
- Assist the Dean with strategic and long‑range planning, faculty recruitment, fundraising, and other college‑wide initiatives.
- Serve on the NMSU Associate Deans Academic Council and other university bodies.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Dean.
- Ensure compliance with HLC rules and federal regulations, including FERPA, ADA, and Title IX.
- Serve as liaison between the college and university administration, community partners, state legislature, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate college academic reports to university administration, state, and federal agencies.
- Earned terminal degree in a directly related discipline and tenure or tenurable at the rank of professor.
- Knowledge and understanding of university mission, vision, goals, and applicable regulations.
- Strong capabilities in short‑ and long‑term planning, problem analysis, report preparation, and presentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, manage records, exercise independent judgment and initiative, and organize/direct activities.
- Doctoral degree in an area related to HEST’s degree programs.
- Tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor in a related field (or candidacy for promotion to full professor).
