Systems Administrator
Under limited direction, the Senior Windows System Administrator provides leadership, direction, and administration in the planning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of Microsoft Windows server systems and related infrastructure. Performs analysis and engineering of systems solutions.

- Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and provides administration for medium-sized Server environment, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft System Center, Virtualization, SQL Server, iSCSI Storage Area Networks and applicable applications.
- Generates system maintenance reports including system capacity, performance, security audit, and change management.
- Analyzes future business needs, recommends changes, and evaluates new products including analysis and engineering of Systems Administration related solutions for various projects and operational needs; manages software licenses and compliance while maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Assists with preparation and implementation of IT Operations projects and provides high level technical support for information systems and infrastructure to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Serves as a lead and technical resource for the resolution of moderate to complex issues regarding desktop Operating System deployment, group policy configuration, and updating and patching of computer operating systems and applications.
- Provides local and remote server support of Windows Server infrastructure and administration on data center servers; leads in the installation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and configuration of servers and applications.
- Verifies the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, enterprise systems, and key processes; reviews logs, verifies completion of scheduled jobs and ensures that daily backup operations are completed according to established procedures.
- Manages server operations, system patches, and upgrades on a regular basis; upgrades administrative tools and utilities and adds new services as necessary; repairs and recovers hardware and software failures.
- Works closely with Information Security Specialist to establish baseline operating environments and security related change management policies.
- Meets regularly with staff to review work in progress, discuss and resolve administrative, workload, and technical issues, and to prioritize and assign tasks and projects; evaluates and analyzes functions, resources, processes, and procedures to identify issues and recommend changes for improvement; interprets applicable rules and regulations within scope of authority to provide leadership and guidance in developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures.
- Collects and analyzes data to prepare and present various special and recurring reports to provide accurate and timely information related to assigned functions and duties; develops and presents information in clear and easily used formats; maintains regulatory compliance by keeping current on industry trends, regulations, and issues; identifies areas of concern for management for review and potential action.
- Responds to and resolves various complaints, issues, inquiries, and problems as authorized and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field AND three (3) years enterprise-level Microsoft Windows systems administration experience in a multi-server, networked environment. ?
A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/Certifications
