REQ-STS New Mexico LLCThe Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining school buses and other district vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation operations. This role plays a critical part in supporting student transportation by maintaining vehicles in compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.## Responsibilities
* Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on school buses, support vehicles, and transportation equipment.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, suspension, heating, and engine-related issues.
* Conduct routine safety inspections to ensure vehicles meet federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
* Communicate with drivers and transportation staff regarding vehicle performance concerns and maintenance needs.
* Complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and timely.
* Perform scheduled maintenance services, including fluid changes, tune-ups, brake service, tire maintenance, and component replacements.
* Assist with preparing repair estimates and identifying parts required for maintenance and repair activities.
* Respond to road calls, emergency repairs, and vehicle breakdowns as needed.
* Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
* Follow district policies, maintenance procedures, and workplace safety standards.
* Participate in required technical and safety training.
* Support transportation operations and perform other duties as assigned.  ## Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* One (1) year of experience in bus, diesel, automotive, fleet, truck, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
* Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and preventative maintenance practices.
* Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and perform repairs efficiently.
* Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
* Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
* Valid driver's license required.
* CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.  ## Preferred Competencies
