The Project Interior Designer leads day-to-day project execution, client communication, and coordination with internal and external partners, operating within Blue Heron’s established interior standards, design philosophy, and budgetary frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full interior design experience for assigned luxury residential projects from conception through completion.
  • Prepare and deliver polished design presentations that align client aspirations, architectural intent, and Blue Heron brand standards.
  • Command the room in client meetings: set agenda and tone, present confidently, guide choices, and drive toward decisions with clarity and professionalism.
  • Manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle by addressing challenges proactively, offering strategic solutions, and maintaining clear, consistent communication.
  • Own the interiors scope for both experience and margin, balancing design excellence with budget and schedule considerations.
  • Curate, specify, and coordinate luxury materials, finishes, FF&E, textiles, and bespoke detailing.
  • Ensure seamless integration of architectural and interior design elements.
  • Design effectively to budget, meet project milestones, and continuously improve design workflow efficiency.
  • Closely manage and oversee client billable hours related to interiors scope.
  • Partner with Project Design Managers, Project Managers, and leadership to align interiors with overall project strategy.
  • Monitor scope changes and collaborate on clear documentation and communication regarding adjustments.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with estimating, procurement, construction, architecture, project management, sales, and marketing teams to execute design plans consistently and maintain visibility on cost, lead times, and risk.
  • Serve as a primary interiors voice in design reviews, constructability reviews, and onsite walkthroughs.
  • Advocate for the client experience while aligning with operational realities and company goals.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Blue Heron Interior Design Experience, interior standards, tools, and training.
  • Represent interior design in internal initiatives, brand storytelling, and thought leadership efforts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design required.
  • 9+ years of interior design experience in luxury residential or luxury hospitality, including leading full high-end residential projects required.
  • NCIDQ certification preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating concept-to-completion leadership in luxury environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge of materials, detailing, FF&E, and custom fabrication.
  • Solid understanding of construction methodologies, architectural detailing, and finish materials.
  • Exceptional ability to lead client-facing conversations with professionalism, emotional intelligence, and clear communication.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of handling multiple complex projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and maintaining design intent.
  • Proven ability to lead clients through complex decisions with confidence, empathy, and clarity.
  • Comfort engaging in budget, value, and margin conversations.
  • Proficiency in industry standard tools including Microsoft Office Suite, Sketch Up, and Bluebeam.
