JOB DESCRIPTIONThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant/Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology, Surgery Department, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0132611].
ROLE OF THE POSITIONThe Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, Department of Surgery is recruiting for a Surgical Oncologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The candidate’s educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution, or equivalency will be considered in determining recommended rank. The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the SOM promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM.
Tenure may be considered upon hire on a case‑by‑case basis depending on verified credentials and recommendations.
The Surgical Oncologist will join a team of fellowship‑trained surgical oncologists and breast surgical oncologists in the Division. Responsibilities include diagnosis, staging, and surgical treatment of malignancy, surgical palliation, development of an active clinical surgical oncology practice, clinical research, and quality improvement activities.
Assistant/Associate Professors will actively participate in the education of medical students, surgical residents, and fellows, and pursue scholarly activities with learners. They are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills, commitment to ongoing performance improvement, and dedication to enhancing a diverse workforce and academic environment. Collaboration with other clinicians is essential, as is evidence of clinical competence, didactic teaching, and clinical trial research.
Participation in national meetings related to Surgical Oncology will be encouraged and supported.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- MD or DO degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an academic attending surgeon.
- Board Certified in General Surgical Oncology or completion of an SSO‑accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship and Board Certified in General Surgery prior to the start date.
- Eligibility for an unrestricted Nevada medical license, malpractice coverage, and the ability to meet credentialing requirements and obtain admitting privileges at applicable hospitals or clinics before employment.
- Expertise in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.
