Overview

Summary

As a clinical instructor at Carrington College, you will be responsible for providing clinical instruction and supervision to students in the campus skills laboratory setting, in a healthcare/patient care setting and delivering a quality educational experience for the students in the clinical courses that you teach through ensuring that curriculum is up to date, that effective delivery methods are employed, and that all students are treated in a fair and equitable manner.

Responsibilities
  • Instructs, supervises, and evaluates nursing students in the skills laboratory setting or at a healthcare/patient care setting.
  • Plans and conducts individual and group conferences with students.
  • Effectively communicates orally and in writing with students, clinical coordinator, course lead, other campus nursing faculty/staff and staff at clinical site as directed by program administration. Demonstrates professionalism in all communication.
  • Demonstrates competency and compliance with use of designated computer systems, resources, and work-related technology, including audio-visual and clinical setting equipment.
  • Possesses the ability to prioritize and perform appropriately in clinical/lab settings with frequent interruptions and a high pace of activity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize and coordinate student learning experiences that support learning outcomes and clinical/course objectives.
  • Assists students to prepare for providing patient care, performing nursing skill and physical assessments.
  • Guides and evaluates students during clinical skill practice, clinical judgement, and demonstration of skills.
  • As needed, monitors students during testing sessions while adhering to proctoring policies.
  • Evaluates student progress by reviewing assignments and lab/clinical performance using appropriate tool.
  • Maintains current professional standards. Demonstrates compliance with professional practice standards. Participates in conferences and workshops as requested.
  • Maintains an ongoing plan for professional development, participating in regular performance review and goal-setting activities.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled and as needed communication with the Dean of Nursing, Assistant Dean or designee.
  • Advances the profession of nursing by participating in professional organizations, community activities, faculty development and other professional scholarship endeavors.
  • As assigned, participates in campus and nursing department meetings and activities.
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating the program curriculum, teaching practices, student learning outcomes and clinical site.
  • Participates in implementing and evaluating standards for student progression.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with clinical setting staff, students, other faculty members and campus staff.
  • Identify students who are at risk in clinical/lab and assist students to develop success plans.
  • Provide timely feedback to student work.
  • Verify accuracy of student time sheets.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
