Position: Principal for Private School

Journey Education is seeking a dedicated, mission-aligned Principal to lead our vibrant K–8 learning community.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced educational leader who values relationship-based education, collaborative leadership, and the ability to make a meaningful impact in a small-school environment.

Journey Education, in it's 18th year, is intentionally small, serving approximately 90 students and is known for its close-knit, nurturing culture.

Our mission is to develop students of character, confidence, and compassion, and we believe that strong relationships between students, staff, families, and leadership are central to student success.

The Principal plays a vital role in sustaining and strengthening the culture that makes Journey thrive by supporting teachers, partnering with families, and guiding students academically and socially. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader who enjoys being visible, accessible, and engaged in daily school life.

Key Responsibilities

School Leadership & Operations

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership to ensure the academic success, safety, and well‑being of all students.
  • Oversee daily school operations and ensure alignment with Journey's mission, values, and educational goals.
  • Partner with the Journey board of directors on strategic planning and continuous school improvement.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and support all school personnel, including teachers, aides, and office staff.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain high‑quality staff in collaboration with the Journey board of directors.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings, in‑service days, and ongoing professional development.

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Oversee curriculum development and instructional practices across grade levels.
  • Monitor student academic progress, oversee diagnostic testing, and use data to guide instructional improvement.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of student academic records and reports.

Student Support & School Culture

  • Support teachers in implementing school discipline policies with consistency, care, and respect.
  • Meet with students and parents to address concerns, celebrate successes, and foster strong partnerships.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive school climate that supports social‑emotional growth.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Actively partner with families and support the parent organization.
  • Assist with school marketing efforts, including tours, open houses, and meetings with prospective families.
  • Serve as an ambassador of Journey Education within the broader community.

Facilities, Safety & Extracurricular Activities

  • Advise and assist with building maintenance, technology needs, and safety procedures.
  • Support and attend school-sponsored extracurricular activities and events.
Schedule & Compensation

School‑year hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Summer hours:
Approximately 7 weeks, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Additional hours as needed to fulfill responsibilities with excellence.

Salary:
Starting at $68,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Master's degree in Education preferred;
    Bachelor's degree in Education with demonstrated leadership experience considered.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a school leadership role (Principal, Assistant Principal, dean, or equivalent).
  • Valid teaching license.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to support, coach, and inspire teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Organized, dependable, professional, and growth‑minded.
  • Genuine love for working with children and partnering with families.
  • Willingness to learn, collaborate, and be an active presence in the school community.
  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
