The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor in Cell and Molecular Biology, School of Life Sciences [R0150201]. Position starting Fall 2026.
ROLE OF THE POSITIONThe School of Life Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Cell and Molecular Biology. The ideal candidate would use vertebrate models and incorporate modern genomic and biochemical approaches to resolve questions such as
1) how developmental pathways are altered by evolutionary processes, leading to new structures and features,
2) how intricate interactions of genes and molecular pathways, known as gene regulatory networks, guide development, and
3) how these pathways evolved in different organisms – including common and divergent mechanisms.
The use of vertebrate systems is preferred. Research may focus on development of the embryo or a particular organ system.
The candidate will be expected to integrate their research program with the mission of the School of Life Sciences and collaborate with existing faculty across multiple areas of expertise including integrative physiology, bioinformatics, and neurobiology. Additional collaborative opportunities exist in Chemistry and Biochemistry and Biomedical Engineering.Across 3-Technical context, the successful applicant is expected to establish a rigorous research program supported by extramural funding, generate peer‑reviewed scholarship, mentor and advise graduate students, effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels (focus on cell biology, genetics, evolution, developmental biology, and genomics) and engage in service activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. in a biological science related degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. The successful applicant will demonstrate a proven record of research accomplishment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPost‑doctoral research training will be favorably considered.
