The Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Air Quality Specialist position in their Permitting, Compliance, and Enforcement sections.

  • Write air quality permits and supporting documentation for major stationary sources throughout Clark County.
  • Process applications, evaluate potential emissions, assess applicable regulations, establish operational and control requirements, and conduct site visits.
  • Review the work of others, provide guidance to less experienced staff, and contribute to program development projects.
Compliance and Enforcement Section
  • Conduct site inspections and/or compliance evaluations of stationary sources with issued permits, registered/delegated sources, construction sites, and vacant lands.
  • Prepare and review technical documents including compliance evaluation reports, notices of violation, administrative orders, settlement agreements, and inspection reports.
  • Perform advanced research and analysis, provide lead direction and training to Air Quality Specialists, and assist in developing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in complex studies and projects, collaborate closely with internal staff, and provide information regarding pollution control compliance methods and devices.
Planning Section
  • Provide technical support in regional air quality planning and help develop strategies to reduce air pollutants.
  • Interpret local, state, and federal regulations and assist with the development of new regulations.
  • Conduct literature reviews and stay current on emerging trends and technologies in air quality management.
  • Use monitoring technologies, data analysis software, modeling programs, and analytical tools to interpret and evaluate data and trends.
  • Support efforts to determine pollutant origins, prepare source-specific emissions inventories, and complete complex studies.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

  • Education and Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental, chemical, mechanical or civil engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related field, and three (3) years of full-time professional experience in air quality management, pollution control, or a related field.
  • Documentation: All education and experience must be clearly documented in the application. Do not substitute a resume or write “see attached resume.” All details must be written in your own words.
  • Working Conditions: Work in an office environment and outdoors in various weather, dust, and noise conditions. May attend meetings outside normal hours.
  • Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
  • Background Investigation: Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Citizenship: Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Clark County does not sponsor or transfer H1B visas.
  • Medical Examination: Employment contingent upon results of a physical exam.
