Job Description & How to Apply Below

Smart City Networks is the nation’s leading provider of event telecommunications and technology services for convention centers and hospitality venues. We design, deploy, and operate mission‑critical wireless networks that power the country’s largest trade shows, conventions, and live events.

Position Summary

The Wireless Architect is the company’s technical authority on all things wireless. This role owns the end-to-end design, validation, and optimization of high‑density, high‑reliability Wi‑Fi and private wireless solutions for convention centers, arenas, temporary event overlays, and hospitality venues. You will translate demanding client and event requirements into predictable, scalable, and secure wireless architectures that perform flawlessly under extreme user density and interference conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead predictive modeling, on‑site RF surveys, and post‑deployment validation for large‑venue and temporary event Wi‑Fi deployments (10,000‑15,000+ concurrent users typical).
  • Design and document enterprise‑grade wireless architectures using Ekahau, Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, Juniper Mist, and related ecosystems.
  • Specify and validate access‑point placement, channel/reuse plans, RF power settings, roaming behaviour, capacity planning, and spectrum management.
  • Architect solutions incorporating 802.11ax/ac/ax (Wi‑Fi 6/6E/7), private LTE/5G, DAS integration, and IoT/low‑power wireless technologies as needed.
  • Collaborate with sales and project teams to scope, propose, and defend wireless solutions in RFPs and client presentations.
  • Perform interference analysis and mitigation in challenging RF environments (steel/concrete structures, temporary overlays, outdoor expositions).
  • Establish and maintain Smart City’s wireless design standards, reusable component libraries, and best‑practice documentation.
  • Serve as Tier‑4 escalation point for wireless‑related incidents during live events.
  • Evaluate emerging wireless technologies (Wi‑Fi 7, 6 GHz expansion, Open Roaming, automated RF management, AI‑driven optimization) and pilot integrations into our service catalog.
  • Mentor network engineers and wireless administrators; conduct internal training on advanced wireless topics.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience (Master’s degree a plus).
  • 7+ years of hands‑on wireless network design and implementation experience.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of 802.11 standards, RF propagation, antenna theory, and high‑density wireless design principles.
  • Proven track record designing and supporting wireless networks in convention centers, stadiums, arenas, trade shows, or similar large public venues.
  • Proficiency with Ekahau Site Survey (ECSE certification strongly preferred), Hamina, or equivalent predictive design tools.
  • Current wireless certifications required (at least two of the following):
  • CWNP – CWDP / CWAP / CWSP
  • Cisco CCNP Wireless – WLCOR & WLSI / WLSD
  • Aruba Network or Juniper Mist Professional certifications
  • Deep experience with at least two major enterprise wireless platforms (Cisco, Aruba/HPE, Ruckus/Comm Scope, Juniper Mist).
  • Strong understanding of wired backbone requirements that support high‑performance wireless (multigigabit switching, QoS, overlay tunneling).
  • Excellent diagramming skills (Visio, Lucidchart) and ability to produce client‑ready deliverables.
  • Outstanding communication skills—able to explain complex RF concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and executives.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Experience with temporary/event‑overlay wireless networks (Super Bowl, CES, Comic‑Con, etc.)
  • Familiarity with distributed antenna systems (DAS) and in‑building cellular integration
  • Background in network automation/scripting (Python, Ansible) for wireless management
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity as applied to wireless (WPA3‑Enterprise, rogue AP detection, 802.1X)
Company Benefits
  • Medical and Prescription Drug
  • Vision
  • Basic Life/AD&D
  • Voluntary Life
  • Short‑Term Disability
  • Long‑Term Disability
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Life Assistance Program (LAP)
