Base Pay Range$90,000.00/yr - $/yr
OverviewWAVR Technologies is developing breakthrough atmospheric water harvesting systems to provide reliable, sustainable sources of fresh water. Our mission is to unlock high‑purity, decentralized water access for industry. We are a fast‑moving, collaborative startup with deep scientific expertise, now building our engineering and productization capabilities.
We are looking for an experienced Process Engineer to whiteboard, analyze, and design a variety of processes and unit operations for separating water from solutions from bench to industrial scale. This may include heat exchangers, liquid pumps, fans, membranes, vapor compressors, boilers, vacuum chambers, and condensers. This role will focus on subsystem prototyping, integration with the water capture system, and process optimization to meet cost and performance targets.
The candidate must be comfortable bridging R&D with applied engineering, and excited about building first‑of‑a‑kind water technologies. The role will report to WAVR’s CTO and work closely with the CSO and broader team.
- Explore new separation methods and components (membranes, heat exchangers, etc.)
- Design, prototype, and test the release subsystem to achieve water output specifications
- Apply knowledge of fluid dynamics, distillations, and separation processes to optimize system design for manufacturability, reliability, quality, scalability, and cost
- Develop and validate subsystem models and performance data
- Analyze results, iterate designs, and document findings
- Support ongoing R&D tasks alongside the CTO and CSO
- Ensure seamless integration between capture and release processes
- Coordinate with the Industrial Product Design Engineer on system‑level design, production, and installation
- Develop testing protocols to ensure water quality and system performance meet internal and regulatory standards
- Implement procedures for water output consistency, repeatability, and ability to meet commercial/application requirements
- Maintain documentation of quality checks and support troubleshooting for pilot systems
This role may require occasional travel to R&D labs, supplier facilities, and pilot sites.
Qualifications / Skills- MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, or related discipline
- 3+ years of experience in thermodynamics, process design, chemical systems, or water treatment
- Strong background in fluid dynamics, separations, and distillation processes
- Direct experience with thermal processes/heat & mass transfer (e.g., distillation, desalination, thermal separations, condensation, phase‑change, or thermal management)
- Strong fundamental knowledge and intuition in heat and mass transfer (e.g., boundary layers, dimensional analysis, multiphase systems) and strong data and coding skills
- Hands‑on experience with thermal/chemical release systems preferred
- Process modeling (e.g., Aspen or similar) or other thermodynamic modeling skills
- Comfortable with hands‑on thermal, fluidic, sensing, and electronics work (thermofluidic)
- Demonstrated ability to design and test lab‑to‑pilot‑scale systems
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Comfortable in a fast‑paced startup environment, with a proactive, collaborative work style
- Collaborative, scientific approach and communication
