Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

Seeking a motivated Airframe and Power Plant Technician to join our Aviation Maintenance Team based at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada. Daily responsibilities will be to perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on U.S. Department of Energy aircraft (Beechcraft B‑350 airplane, Bell‑412/212 helicopter and/or Leonardo AW139) operated by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC.

Key Responsibilities
  • The NNSA Air unit is first and foremost an emergency response team. The emergency we are prepared for is rare, however mechanics must be prepared to respond if activated. As such, MSTS has very reasonable but strict standby requirements for the response teams.
  • Standby requirements and considerations include:
    • Mechanics are required to be on standby as needed, usually 2‑3 weeks at a time. Occasionally longer than 3 weeks depending on staffing.
    • Mechanics are paid $40 per day extra to be on standby.
    • Mechanics must be within 2 hours of your assigned base while on standby.
    • Mechanics on standby must have reliable cell phone reception.
    • Mechanics must remain fit to maintain the aircraft while on standby.
    • If called out, mechanics must be able to deploy for potentially several weeks straight.
    • Standby positions require an additional physical and various inoculations to maintain a deployable status.
    • Deployments for several weeks at a time are possible for both emergency response and non‑emergency response missions.
  • Accomplish scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on U.S. Department of Energy aircraft (Beechcraft B‑350 airplane, Bell‑412/212 helicopter and/or Leonardo AW139) operated by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC.
  • Assist technicians and maintenance personnel in the development, integration, installation and removal of standard mission equipment in aircraft.
  • Work with stockroom personnel to facilitate the timely requisitioning of all parts, materials and equipment needed to complete aircraft maintenance.
  • Maintain aircraft in accordance with the latest revision of the manufacturer’s instructions, applicable FAA Federal Aviation Regulations and Aviation Operations Manual.
  • Operate and maintain ground support equipment.
  • May conduct inspections on work in progress during aircraft maintenance activities, coordinate modifications and major repairs with the FAA, and provide input to aircraft maintenance procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with airworthiness programs established by the airframe manufacturers.
