Position Overview

As a Lead and Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC design at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute expertise across six markets:
Business, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Venue. You will also support refrigeration design needs and work with our sister company, Henderson Building Solutions, to deliver exceptional client experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
• Ensure success of those under your direct supervision.
• Design advanced building systems, prepare design documents, and perform engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines.
• Lead project and design efforts from concept through completion.
• Provide solutions to complex engineering problems, directly or advisorially.
• Ensure drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
• Contribute to development of tools, resources, and company practices.
• Implement and reinforce design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
• Oversee project quality through the review process and regular check‑ins; provide final reviews as needed.

Qualifications

Lead Level

• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering; 11 years relevant experience (or 13 years without a degree). PE license counts toward 1 year.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
• Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.
• Advanced proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Revit) and HVAC software (IESVE, Trane Trace).

Senior Level

• Preferred Bachelor’s degree; 15 years relevant experience or equivalent. PE license counts toward 1 year.
• Expert knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
• Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
• Advanced proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Revit) and HVAC software (IESVE, Trane Trace).

Preferred Qualifications (Both Lead & Senior)

• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Completion of FE exam, LEED and/or WELL accreditation.
• Advanced knowledge of design, A&E industry, codes, and standards across a range of practices.
