Specialized Tax Services – Global Employer Services Senior Associate (ESOP Advisory Focused)
BDO USA is looking for a qualified professional to join our Specialized Tax Services (STS) – Global Employer Services (GES) team. The Senior Associate will focus on ESOP advisory, helping clients maximize their benefits while reducing current and future tax burdens.
Job DescriptionThe STS GES Senior Associate is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, particularly by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes. The role also includes executing tasks related to taxation of equity compensation, deferred compensation, and individual and corporate income taxes.
Key Responsibilities Research- Identify situations requiring research, outline issues, and determine appropriate sources.
- Analyze researched facts and sources.
- Compose detailed reports of findings.
- Assist with compensation planning and benchmark studies for executive compensation models.
- Ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while identifying options to minimize compensation‑related tax and reporting burdens.
- Obtain required client information.
- Document and organize work product for senior Compensation & Benefits review.
- Review SEC filings of public companies, survey data, legal and accounting issue briefs, and best‑practice guidelines.
- Monitor tax and regulatory actions regarding executive compensation rules and advise clients on compliance strategies.
- Prepare studies of market practices, tax, and regulatory activities to identify alternative courses of action for clients.
- Understand the impact of clients’ business objectives on compensation strategy development.
- Supervise daily workload and review work of Comp & Benefits associates and interns.
- Ensure associates and interns receive training on relevant software.
- Assist in professional development and provide performance feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree required; preference for Business, Accounting, or Human Resources.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Two or more years of prior work experience in compensation or strategic service consulting preferred.
- Certified Compensation Professional, CPA, or other relevant certification preferred.
- Proficient in statistical software packages and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) preferred.
- High proficiency in English, both verbal and written, including technical writing skills.
- Excellent communication, analytical, research, organizational, and project‑deadline skills.
- Ability to multi‑task, work independently or in a team, and manage a professional team.
- Strong relationship‑building skills and moderate knowledge of the legislative process regarding tax policy.
National Range: $73,500 – $131,250
Maryland: $73,500 – $131,250
NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $73,500 – $131,250
Washington DC: $73,500 – $131,250
