Under general supervision, the University Police Officer I/II will perform journey level law‑enforcement duties including:
- Protecting university employees, students, and the public; patrolling and safeguarding university properties and surrounding areas.
- Conducting traffic investigations, criminal and non‑criminal investigations, and preparing for security and law‑enforcement activities surrounding special events.
- Preparing for court appearances and maintaining equipment. Performing special assignments related to law‑enforcement functions, maintaining law and order, among other duties.
- Must be retired from the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada prior to the date of hire.
- Must have a current/active Nevada POST Category 1 certification. The POST certification must not be revoked or suspended.
- Not more than 60 months must have lapsed since the peace officer was employed in the other jurisdiction.
- Education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent with one year of law‑enforcement experience; OR Associate of Arts in criminal justice, police science, psychology, or closely related field with six months of law‑enforcement experience; OR one year of experience as a University Police Officer I.
- Must submit to a pre‑employment controlled‑substance screening as required by NRS 284.4066.
- Valid driver’s license required at appointment and for continuing employment.
- Applicants may be subjected to psychological testing, including polygraph testing.
- Must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer per Nevada Revised Statutes and Administrative Code.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal regulations, state statutes, local laws, criminal law, investigative procedures, community policing, equipment use, and report writing.
- General knowledge of investigative procedures and techniques.
- Ability to operate a personal computer, take enforcement action, conduct investigations, testify in court, administer first aid, prepare reports, assess situations, follow instructions, think clearly, act quickly, and maintain relationships. Also maintain POST certification requirements.
- Skill in use of firearms and emergency motor vehicle operation.
- Working knowledge of NSHE and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to operate computer equipment to compile statistics, identify crime trends, and generate reports.

Salary- Police Officer I – Grade 36, Step 1, starting salary $67,901.76.
