Summary
Securing Travel, Protecting People – At the Transportation Security Administration, you will serve in a high‑stakes environment to safeguard the American way of life. In cities across the country, you will secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and public transit systems, protecting the nation’s transportation infrastructure and ensuring freedom of movement for people and commerce.
Duties- Plan, conduct, document, and finalize administrative cases; utilize investigative techniques and sources to develop a strategy for each case.
- Gather and assess information, identify and analyze issues, coordinate and conduct interviews, research standards, and report findings of a thorough investigation.
- Conduct fact‑finding and interview witnesses and suspects on administrative cases involving allegations against TSA employees, contractors, regulated parties, and individuals related to the investigation.
- Implement accepted methodology, procedures, precedents, and techniques for a broad scope of administrative investigations; perform activities in accordance with laws, DHS, and TSA regulations.
- Participate in cross‑organizational or interagency investigations to resolve discrepancies and confirm evidence meets Investigations standards.
- Perform intra‑ and interdivisional investigative assistance requests, including interviews, surveillance, and support functions for administrative, civil, and criminal investigations throughout the United States and outside the Continental United States.
- Facilitate and prepare sworn statements, affidavits, administrative subpoenas, and other official correspondence; prepare accurate, concise reports for presentation to management and adjudicating entities.
- Provide practicable assistance to criminal investigators in administrative and criminal investigative activities as needed.
The major duties described above reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower pay band (H Band) performs the same duties with more guidance and training, and/or projects and work assignments may be less complex.
Requirements- U.S. citizenship or U.S. nationality.
- Minimum age 18 at the time of application.
- Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
- Selective Service registration.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance based on a Special Background Investigation (SBI).
- Successful completion of pre‑ and post‑employment drug/alcohol testing.
- Experience: One year specialized experience at the SV‑G or GS‑9 level (or equivalent in the private sector). Specialized experience must include applying investigative techniques to conduct investigations, carrying out fact‑finding interviews, and preparing written reports of findings.
- Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. if related.
- Other: Combinations of education and post‑high‑school experience may be used; total percentages must equal at least 100 % to qualify.
- Experience: One year specialized experience at the SV‑H or GS‑12 level (or equivalent). Must include planning and conducting investigations using advanced techniques, independent research using analytical methodologies, and preparing memoranda summarizing findings with recommended actions.
- Education and Experience: Credit for experience is based on a 40‑hour workweek; part‑time experience earned proportionally. Volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) may count. Total education and experience percentages must equal at least 100 % to qualify.
Political appointees, Schedule A, Schedule C, or existing SES employees must disclose such status to the Human Resources Office. TSA is an Excepted Service agency; employees may be considered for competitive service vacancies under the Interchange Agreement.
