Overview
Privacy Engineer role at The Privacy Engineer bridges the gap between regulatory requirements and technical execution, developing, implementing, and maintaining privacy controls, technologies, and workflows that protect personal data and ensure compliance across the organization. You will collaborate with product, engineering, legal, and business teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into systems and processes, while driving automation and operational efficiency. This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver who is passionate about privacy and technology, translating sophisticated regulations into actionable solutions and supporting high-risk projects, incident response, and a culture of privacy awareness.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Serve as a domain expert in privacy engineering, advising teams on compliance, risk, and standard methodologies.
- Implement and maintain privacy technologies (primarily Trust Arc) to support compliance and streamline operations.
- Embed privacy into system design and product architecture by working closely with product, legal, and engineering teams.
- Support consent management solutions that honor user choices across platforms.
- Contribute to incident response for data breaches, helping contain risk and ensure proper reporting.
- Translate global privacy laws (GDPR, CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA) into technical and business controls.
- Ensure compliance with standards and frameworks (ISO 27701, NIST Privacy Framework, etc.).
- Drive regulatory projects and high-risk initiatives, ensuring risks are mitigated through thoughtful design.
- Manage and optimize DSAR workflows (access, deletion, portability) within Trust Arc, ensuring accuracy and security.
- Audit and remediate cookie compliance findings, including banner and consent configurations.
- Prepare executive-ready presentations and clear process documentation.
- Educate and train both privacy and non-privacy teams on obligations and tool usage.
- Lead projects independently, track progress, and communicate updates effectively.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years in privacy engineering, privacy operations, governance, or consulting.
- Strong understanding of privacy regulations (GDPR, CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA) and frameworks.
- Experience developing or reviewing APIs with a privacy lens.
- Hands-on experience with privacy platforms (Trust Arc, One Trust, or similar).
- Proven track record in developing and operationalizing privacy compliance processes.
- Skilled in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
- Project management experience with the ability to coordinate teams and timelines.
- Ability to translate legal requirements into technical workflows.
- Experience with cookie compliance audits and implementations.
- Proficiency in creating process maps and system diagrams (Visio, Lucidchart).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence leadership and train diverse audiences.
- Certifications:
CDPSE (ISACA), CISSP-Privacy, ISO/IEC 27701 Lead Implementer or Auditor, NIST Privacy Framework training, GIAC GCCC & GLEG. - Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript/Node.js, Go, or C++.
- Experience automating DSAR workflows or PIAs using APIs or orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with advanced privacy ops tools (Trust Arc, One Trust, BigID).

$121,601 - $225,831 per year. Our goal is to pay a market-competitive salary near the median of our pay ranges. Final offers depend on experience, education, skills, location, and internal pay equity.
